Tony DeSare "If I Fell"

Tony DeSare - the terrific jazz artist has the soul of Frank Sinatra and the vocal strength of Billy Joel always amazes me as a musical fan. I came across Tony a few years back when looking for fresh sounds and artists within the jazz genre. I have been very happy since that my musical journey led me to Tony's music.

iTunes: https://itunes.apple.com/us/album/if-i-fell/id889068173?i=889068174
Official Website: http://www.tonydesare.com/

From my initial education on Tony was his 2005 album entitled; "Want You" which lent itself to his album; "Last First Kiss" in 2007 with these two harking back to his jazz musical roots. Tony also plays the piano and does a grand job with mastering it on his albums where they feel as if he went back in time to record in the old school style of a large band and doing all of the recording sessions all together. Tony continued to bring me and other on his journey upon releasing; "Radio Show" in 2009 which was fantastic. I love to this day the feel of this album from start to finish where Tony wanted a feel of the old recording sessions and the sound of the old microphones and I love it. One album that I truly enjoy listening to over and over. Which then brings us to his most recent album being; "PiANO" in 2013. Tony's take on "I Love a Piano" where the music video takes him through the exciting of New York City playing all types of pianos along with; "New Orleans Tango" "Just One Of Those Things" & "Faithfully" are all done in Tony's style with sophistication.

Tony has one awards for being the "Rising Star" male vocalist along with his widely successful appearances at noteworthy venues such as; Carnegie Hall, performing in Las Vegas with Don Rickles and all over the world including Japan, Australia, and Hong Kong.

I am also pleased to announce that Tony has a brand new single entitled; "If I Fell" which is out now as a single via iTunes and other major sites. This song is written by John Lennon and Paul McCartney where The Beatles originally sung. This time Tony makes this ballad his own and at the same time pays respect to Lennon/McCartney and their musical genius. "If I Fell" is another artfully done track by Tony which if you are a new listener or a long time fan as I am you will not be disappointed and will look forward to Tony's full length album which we hopefully will get very soon. No fears if you would love to hear Tony perform live he will be in NYC this fall and all over the United States through out the year.

Shaliek pours his Blood Sweat Tears

Shaliek - a New York City native brings back his true musical roots with his latest album entitled; Blood Sweat Tears. This has been a project where I can say it has been a long time coming. We finally get to hear Shaliek being showcased in the genres such as a smooth R&B that he belongs to. His voice lends itself to the classic soul sound that is for me music to the ears.

The current album which is out now does just what I am many others are looking for bringing Shaliek back to where his voice belongs and sounds best. In the past Shaliek has collaborated with heavy hitters as; Alicia Keys and The Underdogs. Unfortunately, for Shaliek it has been a bit of a rough road where his previous full length album never was released where it gave the performer doubts as anyone would. After the first project was shelved, Shaliek went ahead and focused for several years on writing music for other singers. Finally, a new opportunity presented itself that he could present his own musical gems in his own vocals and deliver it the way he intended them to. Influential musicians for Shaliek is one of my all time favorite legends Sam Cooks where when listening to "Blood Sweat Tears" one can clearly hear him pay homage.

I highly recommend this soulful album that will take you on a classic music ride!

Chris Burke and his soul!

Chris Burke - has some great brand new material that showcases his soulful side. This Nashville based singer/songwriter has a lot of amazing projects going on along with new material for his fans. The way that I came to truly enjoy Chris's vocals is by his amazing soaring vocals in soul music which is one of his much awaited projects, his soul album! This soul project has some of my all time favorite's such as "Mercy Mercy Me" (made famous by Marvin Gaye), "Human Nature" (the great track from Michael Jackson), "Here And Now" (the beautiful song from Luther Vandross), "That's Where It's At" (a terrific song made famous by Sam Cooke) along with many more.

Chris Burke is one of our "Artist in Residence" where we will continue to follow all things involving this truly gifted artist. This up and coming soul project is a labor of true love for Chris where the music was meticulously chosen for a well thought out and high quality product. Chris also while recording this album worked with Bobby King whom is a true legend in his own right. Bobby King is a Philadelphia native who breaths Philly soul music. As a touring guitarist and bassist for noteworthy singers such as Tanya Tucker, John Berry, Holly Dunn and many others. John is always busy with doing session work for other greats like Double Exposure and The Soul Survivors. As a producer and recording engineer, Bobby King is able to stay true to his musical roots of Philadelphia and continue his passion in the musical industry. "The Beat!" will assuredly release another article upon this soul album's release.

Additionally, Chris has a brand new music video for his hot track; "Roller Coaster Ride." This track is great and the music video does it justice! I love seeing Chris truly love doing his passion which is music and this video shows just that. The music video showcases the very likeable Chris dancing and having fun on his ride with this track. I truly enjoy seeing Chris Burke in all areas of his music background being pop, r&b, soul and others. If you are just for the first time discovering Chris Burke's music do yourself a favor and listen to the up-coming soul project sampler along with his original penned track; "Roller Coaster Ride" and music video. These two items in themselves will widen your eyes and have you become an instant Chris Burke fan!

Matthew Huff & Lance Carpenter write "This Is Our Home" for Arkansas Storm Victims

Country artists - Matthew Huff and Lance Carpenter collaborated on a song entitled; "This Is Our Home" what would be a love letter to their home state. The state of Arkansas faced a recent devastating tornado leaving casualties and devastation. These two country music artists decided to give back to the state they both proudly call home (Matthew hailing from Mammoth Spring & Lance hailing from Ozark).

What a way to send your love to the people you love and to give back at the same time then a song for healing. Both artists have recorded their own version of the single which is below for your listening pleasure. The power of music is endless!

Matthew Huff's Single Version of "This Is Our Home"

Lance Carpenter's Single Version of "This Is Our Home"

Lisa Fischer: her voice is "Intense!"

Lisa Fischer - this dynamic vocalist that when hearing her vocals the acrobatics are limitless. Lisa is a diva in waiting though her temperament is anything but that. I was blown away from her appearance in the Academy Award winning documentary entitled; "20 Feet From Stardom." This documentary released in 2013 instantly educated viewers on the voices that they forever linked his or her memories with were all thanks to the un-song heroes such as Darlene Love, Táta Vega, Claudia Lennear, Merry Clayton amongst many others. Lisa Fischer is also featured where us the viewers are schooled on the many vocals from the 1960's to today and how the song's live and breath "thanks" to the back-up vocalists. I am a huge music fan and was blown away by the stories these gifted singers provided which made me become that much more aware.

It simply gave me the "wow factor" when hearing the stories of not just one but a numerous amount of people that support, have some of the most memorable parts of a song, limitless energy and stage presence while always being the supporting background vocals feet away from the lead.

Lisa has lent her vocals that are one of the very best in the business. In an industry that one has to brand themselves and be able to be in the limelight is not always for all. The harsh reality is that there are such amazing vocalists being one Lisa Fischer that are more selfless and want to be immersed in the music but do not love the marketing, publicity, and what fame brings to one. Lisa loves to be able to go onto a stage for ten's of thousands of fans then head home via driving herself with no flashing bulbs and intense paparazzi. Being able to do her passion which is music and then being able to fade away to enjoy a day of shopping with the anonymity is more of a comfort.

Lisa Fischer has wowed and amazed fans for a few decades now since lending her talents as a back-up vocalist to Luther Vandross, Melba Moore, Chaka Khan and Roberta Flack amongst many other noteworthy first class performance artists.

The solo career & Grammy Award!

Lisa very deservedly garnered a contract in 1990 with Elektra Records where she released her first
and thus far only solo artist album entitled; "So Intense." This gave away to a new life for Lisa where rather than being close to the main spotlight she was right in it , front and center! "So Intense" was a huge commercial and critically acclaimed album where it bestowed a Grammy Award to her for "Best Female R&B Vocal Performance" in 1992.

The solo album also gave Lisa recognition with her biggest hit from the album being; "How Can I Ease The Pain" which gave her a number one hit on the US R&B Charts along with the Top 40. In total with her album Lisa released 3 singles and had a smash hit with the first single and the overall album. Lisa co-wrote a total of three songs of the 10 released on the album with heavy hitters such as Luther Vandross whom was a huge supporter (also a once back-up vocalist himself) of hers.

Post Solo Career:

Elektra Records was totally lost on how to utilize now a Grammy Award winning female vocalist. What genre should they place this vocalist in and how to brand her from here on in....these were just a few of the key items that upon working on her 2nd album, which was to be the follow-up to "So Intense" that it was taking several months for her as well. Lisa got lost on where she wanted to go with her material and the perfect sound with the proper tracks. At the end of the day Elektra felt that Lisa took too long to record her sophomore album and decided to drop her from their label. Lisa also mentions that for her going back to being a back-up vocalist is where her heart and passion was not being front row center.

Now, being free of the burden of her solo work Lisa went back to touring and recording studio time with the best of the best in the recording industry. The Rolling Stones took note of her powerhouse vocals and took her on as the lead back-up female vocalist starting in 1989 and has continued to do every tour of theirs since. Also, other heavy hitters that were a wide array of genres took note of her insane vocals and took her on to shine such as Sting, Tina Turner, Chris Botti, and more. Lisa has stayed constantly busy with global touring, studio recording  and now being one of the featured ladies in an Academy Award winning documentary in 2013 entitled; "20 Feet From Stardom."

I being a huge fan of Lisa Fischer can understand her view of the passion of the music and finding what is truly met for her. I am though selfish and would love to hear another solo album from her and some touring which she would be perfection. However, I am happy with catching her on a tour and hearing her vocals soar as a back-up vocalist as well. It is truly amazing to see an evolution of a singer who truly found what they were destined for but also deserved the recognition from her peers and fans of being one of the best.

Hope this article educates and perhaps allows a reader to discover an artist that deserves more of the limelight. The good news is we will be featuring in up-coming articles additional back-up vocalists that deserve their time and recognition.

Breaux Gargano is "Just Your Way" (exclusive interview)

Breaux Gargano - is an independent rock artist based out of Nashville, Tennessee. Breaux leaves a lasting impression on anyone that sees him live and/or listens to his material. Having a social conscience and always thinking of empowering others through song and being able to tell stories that one can relate to. A big move for his music career, Breaux relocated from up-state New York to get to the pulse of his music being for him Nashville.  Breaux never looks back and always looks to find himself a better writer. From Breaux’s freshman album entitled; “One Way” in 2011 to his brand new single; “Just Your Way” one as a fan can hear his growth in terms of writing and expanding his musical roots.

I had the pleasure to speak with Breaux in an exclusive interview which was thoroughly enjoyable. I was already a fan prior and from the conversation I left even a bigger one. Breaux leaves an impact with his music whether that is through the online StageIt performances, Visiting Artist Series, performing at venues such as Cyber Café West, and his online blog; “Live From The Couch Series.” Breaux continues to be a popular and very active artist whom you will be seeing a lot more of.

Interview Conducted By: Mason Williams

1)      One of the first things that got my attention aside from your music is a quote you have on your website: “We are all the same people, with the same feelings, desires, heartaches, and pains.” This is a very moving statement; please tell me how this reflects you.

This is a personal statement, a biography I wrote. As a person there are two things that are most important: 1) taking care of our environment/world and 2) equality. No matter what your believes, race, you have the same emotions as everyone else. It is important to remind people we are all one. My songs are written vaguely to allow others to have their feelings placed into the song as well – a song that that one can feel they wrote personally and can connect with.

2)      What attracted you to relocate to Nashville, Tennessee and leave your home state of NY?

I grew-up in a small town called Binghamton, NY which is a lovely area though for someone whom wants to expand themselves musically it was very limited. At the end of the day my passion of music won where I knew relocating was essential due to not having the expansive opportunities such as access to producers, recording studios, whereas Nashville, TN being called Music City, USA for a reason.  Nashville is a city where it allows one to meet other musicians as yourself and grow and of course always being competitive and bringing your level best.

3)      In 2013, you were nominated for “Best Live Rock Performer” in the Nashville Independent Music Awards which must have been exciting and bringing to a new terrain in your musical career.
The nomination is a huge compliment as a testament of my work and how it is being received which feels great. The founder of the awards themselves being Cormat noticed me and invited me to perform.  After that chance meeting Cormat really liked my music and what I had to say in my own original material where it landed me on the award nomination radar. I kept very busy with live gigs from doing shows with others in the round. This is an awesome way to blend one’s work with others and really meet other equally talented artists that together can start collaborating. I am excited that this year I will be part of the Rock Council in the Nashville music scene.

4)      I am very excited to hear your new single entitled; “Just Your Way” which is out now, talk about this song and why you chose this one to release as you’re highly anticipated new single?

In the past few years I have refocused myself to understand what I truly want to do which is writing rock songs and staying true to those roots. “Just Your Way” is much more of a rock sound than a lot of my previous material and is a lot more symbiotic. It shows the state that I have grown and where I want to be musically which is discovering in-depth my rock musical roots. I wrote a handful of songs and decided how to choose the next single to my follow-up freshman album; “One Way” (2011). I took all potential songs including what ended up being the current single and performed them live at gigs and also presented them to industry producers to gain feedback from a diverse spectrum. At the end of the day both the industry producers along with fans/family all came to the same consensus that “Just Your Way” was a great re-introduction to my fans and also to go down the more of a rock sound which I was deeply seeking for.

5)      What are often your inspirations?

I need and always had to find creativity which I do through where I live, experiences, and major milestones that have me view things differently such as getting married recently and now introducing our first baby to the family. These all inspire me to want to do great for my family and make them proud of me as a rock artist and my material. Nashville provides a lot of inspiration where many think of this city as a pure country music scene and nothing more. Unfortunately, they are missing out on a lot more of a wide eclectic array of music and history such as Jimmie Hendrex first professional gig was in this great city. I knew prior to relocating from my hometown in NY State that Nashville had a lot more musically to offer than many think.  One would be amazed such as I was even more so upon arriving of the exact music scene which includes heavy metal, indie rock, pop, and much more. A city that originally started with it’s very lengthy and legendary country roots now offers such a diverse music scene which is very inspiring.

6)      Talk to us about how you choose material and when we will see your sophomore album out for all of our listening pleasure.

As of this moment I do not have the exact set of songs I want to record. I truly want to do a great follow-up album that I will be proud of and not simply release something for the sake of it. I want a theme for this album where in itself tells a story rather than a collection of songs packaged together. I guess I am very old fashioned with the conception of an album to listen to one with that story. Many will tell me to simply release new material rather than a gap of time between singles being released. What I am looking to do is a labor of love from myself as an artist along with my fans where we all have our hands in the particular material I release. Since I know my fans overall want the quality and concept I do the idea I have is great. I will release a new single such as my current and from there set a goal such as selling 500 copies where there is no timeframe of this. I feel this will give loyalty from both myself and the fans where if they love my music they can support me by purchasing the single online where after reaching a goal in return release another single and continue to do this method for roughly 5 to 6 singles. From there taking those singles and creating an EP and then later an album with those singles and brand new tracks. This will have everyone’s involvement with the passion of my sound, material, and career.

7)      Alright, first before we do anything else you’re above response on the process of creating an EP and album is terrific. Everyone as you mentioned will have a hand in a grass roots project that by one person’s support will help fund the next single and in turn allow you to know what people are waiting to hear from you. The give and take from both sides is very essential and I am very happy to see that you are very in-tuned with this. Now, talk about your freshman album; “One Way” released in 2011.

I recorded my first album being “One Way” right after arriving to Nashville. Many songs were inspired from my new lease of life being in a motivated area and allowing me to grow/thrive as a rock artist. I actually found my voice in writing when in Nashville I learned a lot more about myself. This album represents me as a songwriter. I wrote about situations that fit me well and started to perform live to see the response. The impact of the material written and style I often get from audience feedback. I fleshed songs out. “One Way” came from the artwork. Over the years I tried to fit into boxes and at the end of the day be true to myself hence the title; “One Way.” A very happy album, experiences were at a place that was fantastic such as getting married.

As a writer I draw from inspiration which allows me to write the very best.

8)      I am excited about the current projects you are working on, would you elaborate on up-coming projects?

Currently, the plan is that I have my current new single out which will lend itself to a brand new sophomore album. Every month to two months I have a video blog that will be updated. I am also expanding my global fan base by doing more gigs via StageIt. I love this venue where I can stay in touch with everyone no matter the location. This is also a great forum to solicit feedback on new tracks whether they work or not prior to any release. The fans will get the first opportunity to hear most of my brand new material.

Elaine Paige and her treasure of an "Ultimate Collection!"

Elaine Paige - the legendary leading lady of theater is releasing via Rhino/Warner Music UK a highly anticipated album entitled; "The Ultimate Collection." This year Elaine celebrates 50 years in the music business. In her impressive career and having one of the loveliest voices of theatrical actresses alive this is a "must have" for any fan (the album goes from 1978 - 2011).

To celebrate properly Elaine's lovely career this album chronicles her great roles in theater such as in "Sunset Boulevard" "Cats" "Evita" "Follies" "Jesus Christ Superstar" and many more. What I truly love about this release there is an expanded version with even more treasures of Elaine's. Andy Grammer is "Back Home!"

Andy Grammer - is releasing his 2nd album this fall which as of this moment is yet to be titled. Andy's very first single for the album is now released and is titled; "Back Home." The new single is very catchy to the ear when hearing it. People will remember that Andy got fame from his 2011 debut album (self titled) with the Top 5 chart topping hit; "Keep Your Head Up" along with the Top 10 hit; "Fine By Me" along with the Top 15 hit; "Miss Me."

Andy is currently underway with headlining a tour this year with many dates already made. I think the song "Back Home" will get people to think fondly of times past and love the catchy song. Cheers to another hit song for Andy Grammer!
