Natalie Cole: Simply Unforgetable (1950 - 2015)

Natalie Cole - it is with my deepest sympathy to say that this legendary singer has passed away on Thursday, December 31st 2015. Natalie Cole was 65 years young and passed  "due to complications from ongoing health issues" (her family's statement).  Natalie had a long battle with drug addiction and then eventually having Hepatitis C along with getting a life saving kidney transplant in 2009.

"It is with heavy hearts that we bring to you all the news of our Mother and sister's passing. Natalie fought a fierce, courageous battle, dying how she lived ... with dignity, strength and honor," her sisters, Timolin and Casey Cole, and son, Robert Yancy, said in the statement. "Our beloved Mother and sister will be greatly missed and remain unforgettable in our hearts forever."

As soon as I heard of this news early this morning it was my gift to myself and to all of you readers to share/celebrate Natalie's music. Natalie Cole will forever be a staple as one of my THE VOICES for Christmas along with her varied music to be forever on my playlist. This nine time Grammy Award winning singer placed herself on the map before landing herself a record deal due to being born into a very talented family with her father Nat King Cole and mother Marie Ellington Cole both successful recording artists. Natalie loved her gift of music since being young and singing alongside her family. Her first album "Inseparable" from 1975 lauded a huge acclaim with career bench mark with the hit; "This Will Be (An Everlasting Love)" along with the aptly entitled album title, then came her self titled sophomore album (1976) in which again had large acclaim with singles; "Mr. Melody" and "Sophisticated Lady." In 1977, Natalie released two albums; "Unpredictable" and "Thankful" which also spawned hits; "I've Got Love On My Mind" "I'm Catching Hell" and "Our Love."

In 1991, Natalie released her biggest selling album; "Unforgettable....with Love" which was another ground breaking time where the singer was able to pay tribute to her father with a homage to his much beloved music which provided a very moving song with her late father; "Unforgettable." I had a privilege seeing Natalie Cole live in concert twice once in 2002 and the other 2013. Natalie at both instances sounded the same as her original recordings and made me feel I was in a small intimate jazz club circa the 1930s/1940s. The stage Natalie commanded and will always be remembered as one truly gifted talent. When speaking about her career as a comparison to her father I enjoyed that she stated that she is not behind nor in front of him simply beside him. What an unforgettable legendary lady, actress, music writer and all around entertainer.

The Holidays with Natalie Cole!

Natalie Cole - has one of the loveliest voices of ladies which only makes sense with her father being the great Nat King Cole. I have for years adored Natalie Cole as a singer and performer. Natalie is one lady that opposed to many of her contemporary's has kept her vocals in tact and sounds truly timeless. A stable for my Christmas music enjoyment is always Natalie Cole and her wide array of holiday songs and albums. My personal favorite is her 1994 holiday album entitled; "Holly & Ivy."

"Holly & Ivy" is celebrating it's 20th Anniversary and is one of my all time favorite albums since buying it in 1994 to this day. Natalie brings her always classy, soul, passion into each of the tracks of this particular holiday album. It is set with her lush big band sounds and powerful vocals and emotions that one can tell this is not a phoned in album rather a classic that stays true to the songs and makes the listener go on the journey both jubilant and sentimental. This is one classic lady and album that I always listen to annually come the holiday season from start to finish. My favorites have to be;
"Joy To The World" "Jingle Bells" "No More Blue Christmas" "Silent Night" "The Christmas Song" & "The Holly & The Ivy."

In 1993, David Foster released another of my staples now since it first was released as a go-to for the holiday season where he featured Natalie performing; "Grown Up Christmas List" & "White Christmas" (the later being recorded with other greats also featured on the album such as; Michael Crawford, Johnny Mathis, Wynonna Judd, Vanessa Williams, BeBe & CeCe Winans).

In 1999, Natalie Cole released another holiday album and this time with the London Symphony Orchestra where she did lovely recordings of; "O Tanenbaum" "Hark The Herald Angels Sing" "Sleigh Ride""Carol of the Bells" and one of my favorites of the album; "Mary, Did You Know."

Natalie also recorded a live holiday album in December 1995 entitled; "A Celebration of Christmas." The powerful powerhouses of opera joined her this time being both Placido Domingo and Jose Carreras. All tracks on this album were sung by all three of the artists and were simply a glorious collaboration.

Now when you are looking for a classic album and singer for the holiday season look no further to one of my all time favorites and go-to ladies Natalie Cole!

Natalie Cole releases a new album: "Natalie Cole en Espanol"

Natalie Cole releases a new album: "Natalie Cole en Español"

That is right our legendary singer who is "Everlasting" will be releasing a brand new album which is completely recorded in Spanish. The album entitled: "Natalie Cole en Espanol" will be released June 25th on Verve/Universal. Natalie is able to spread her wings with Verve from her jazz, duets and now Spanish albums being released. I personally as a long time fan have really enjoyed Natalie's recent projects with Verve which gives her the power to release her dream albums that are simply fantastic!

Natalie Cole decides to follow her father Nat King Cole with releasing an entire Spanish album while making it fresh.  The hope is to introduce a new fan base to the same songs that her father previously released and she does an amazing job.
